Multimedia Installation (3 photographs, soil, speakers), 2014, dimensions variable

On the one hand, the two-part installation comprises piled-up earth from Hungary, Serbia and Austria and relates to the blood-and-soil ideology of national states. Three overlapping soundtracks thematize the issue of the written propaganda. The texts in the soundtrack come from the history books currently used in schools in respective countries. Photographs showing Franz Ferdinand and Gavrilo Princip, as well as the self-portrait of the artist constitute the second part of the installation: they draw on the artist’s personal history and highlight the intertwining relationship between history and historiography and their complexity. The irreconcilability of the different perspectives and the lack of understanding may result in social upheavals or even wars – as in the case in many parts of today’s world.
